To clear up any misunderstanding, although the Legislature removed the requirement that the Licensee-in-Charge (LIC) have a Crematory Operator (CO) permit from the Board's Series 1 Rule, W. Va. Code § 30-6-19(a) still requires the LIC to have a CO permit or approved training certificate by July 1, 2024 or the licensee cannot be the LIC of your funeral establishment. In other words...You must have a Crematory Operator's permit or a Board approved training certificate to be the Licensee in Charge..... it is still the law and it is in code, regardless that it has been taken out of rules.
Anyone who needs more time to obtain the required training may request an extension. The extension expires January 1, 2025. This request must be in writing to the Board.
